People who are obese or overweight are at higher risk of death or severe illness from COVID-19, according to Public Health England.

According to Public Health England (PHE), people who are obese or overweight are at higher risk of death or severe illness from COVID-19. PHE says that the risk of death increases by 40% for someone with a BMI between 30 and 35 and by 90% for those with a BMI over 40 when compared to those of a healthy weight. "The current evidence is clear that being overweight or obese puts you at greater risk of serious illness or death from
COVID-19, as well as from many other life-threatening diseases," said Alison Tedstone, the PHE Chief nutritionist.
